The all-new next-generation Toyota Highlander Hybrid mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) was unveiled at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show by Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), USA, Inc. Don Esmond, the company's senior vice president of automotive operations, noted that the Highlander is a key component of their hybrid strategy, alongside the Prius and Camry Hybrid.
The 2008 Highlander is larger and more powerful than its predecessor, yet its fuel efficiency remains virtually unchanged. It is notably quieter, smarter, and offers improved versatility and ride comfort - all bundled in a stylish package. Highlander’s comprehensive list of standard safety features is unmatched in the segment. It has seven airbags, including a driver's knee airbag and roll-sensing side curtain airbags for all three rows. On top of this, it also includes Toyota's STAR safety system - anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and, for the first time, enhanced vehicle stability control with electronic power steering.
