Toyota Land Cruiser V8
The Toyota Land Cruiser V8, the company's flagship model, is soon to launch in Europe. This 8th generation keeps the off-road capability that the previous versions have come to be known for, and adds extra refinements for a more comfortable and pleasurable driving experience.
Sadayoshi Koyari, Land Cruiser's chief engineer, outlines the ethos behind this new model: "For over 50 years, strength, durability and reliability have been at the heart of every Land Cruiser model. For this reason, it was important for us to develop something familiar that customers could trust, rather than reinventing a whole new model."
The car has been totally redesigned, boasting a 4950mm length, 2850mm wheelbase, a height between 1865mm and 1910mm, and a width measuring up to 1970mm. The V8 has been made available with either a 4.5 D-4D V8 diesel engine or a 4.7 VVT-I V8 petrol motor. The diesel engine produces 650Nm from 1600 to 2800rpm, with 286hp at 3600rpm. Its fuel consumption for the European combined cycle is 10.2L/100km. Meanwhile, the petrol motor produces 445Nm at 3400rpm and 288hp at 5400rpm, with an improved fuel economy of 14.4L/100km for the European combined cycle. Both of these engines also comply with the Euro IV emissions regulations.
The car has also been integrated with a number of advanced technologies such as the world-first Crawl Control system that runs with the petrol engine and allows for automatic control of the engine and brakes whilst driving off-road, the world first 4-Wheel Active Height Control & Adaptive Variable Suspension, and both the European first Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System and a newly developed centre Torsen Limited Slip Differential.
Furthermore, to ensure the passenger's safety, the Land Cruiser V8 is equipped with the Multi Terrain Anti-lock Brake System, Vehicle Stability Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, and 14 Airbags.
