The Toyota Matrix, a five-door vehicle that revolutionized the crossover utility vehicle genre, has been redesigned for the 2009 model to provide increased performance for drivers. Tim Morrison, Toyota Division's corporate marketing manager, said: "The Matrix was created to combine the features of an SUV, the design and performance of a sports car, with the affordability of a smaller sedan. For 2009, its offering all of this and more - it might have the look of a five-door hatch, but it comes with the spirit of a sports car".
A lot of effort was put in to the 2009 Matrix, which has a lower stance than the previous model and a sleeker design that still delivers room for up to five people. The Matrix has a low-to-the-ground shape with an energetic look, with character lines from the front grille to the A-pillar, as well as smooth rear windows.
The Matrix will come in three versions - Standard, S and XRS, with the option of AWD in the S model. The S and XRS are both equipped with front and rear underbody spoilers, plus rear deck spoiler as standard on XRS models.
