Toyota RAV4 3door

The Toyota RAV4 (pronounced "rav-four") is a compact crossover SUV built and marketed by the Toyota Motor Corporation. It was introduced in Japan in 1994 and in Europe and North America in 1996 to give buyers a car that retained the advantages of SUVs, such as increased cargo capacity, better visibility, and optional four-wheel-drive, along with the driving dynamics and fuel economy of a smaller car. The RAV4's success spurred the production of similar models, such as the Honda CR-V, the Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute/CX-5, and the Subaru Forester. Its name stands for "Recreational Activity Vehicle, 4-wheel drive," though not all models feature 4WD. First generation (1994-2000)In the range's initial production run, it was offered in two or four-door versions. In the US, buyers could choose a 2.0 L I4 engine with 120 hp. Both FWD and AWD were available, and the buyer could select between a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. In 1998, the exterior was slightly revised, and the soft-top two-door was made available in the US. The two-door hardtop was removed from the American lineup in 1999, leaving the four-door and soft-top options. Second generation (2001-2005)This second generation RAV4 was sold in the US as a single trim level, and it had either FWD or AWD available. The US version featured one engine only - a 2.0 L I4 making 148 hp - and it came with standard features such as 16-inch wheels, ABS, stability control, air conditioning, a height-adjustable seat, cruise control, a six-speaker CD stereo, and power windows, mirrors and heated seats. There was a sport package adding mesh grille, hood scoop, color-keyed door handles, a roof rack, silver sport pedals, heated mirrors, gray-painted bumpers and overfenders, and special fabric seats. Alloy wheels, a sunroof and keyless entry were available options. More substantial tires were an option on the AWD version. In 2004, the RAV4 was redesigned slightly and the engine was upgraded to a 2.4 L I4 making 161 hp. During this time, the RAV4 became the best-selling SUV in Australia in 2001 and best-selling compact SUV in 2004. Third generationFor 2006, the RAV4 was completely restyled. It hs the same 2.4 L I4 engine producing 166 hp, up from its predecessor's output, and a new 3.5 L V6 making 269 hp was add, available only in North America. The RAV4 gained 21 percent in interior volume from the last generation, and US and Canada versions could be had with an optional third-row seat for two passengers. FWD and AWD were still offered. The third-gen RAV4 has two wheelbases, a short for Asian and European markets, and a long for North America. In America, the vehicle is assembled at Toyota's Tahara, Aichi, Japan factory, but Woodstock, Ontario, Canada will take over production for North America in 2008.
