Vauxhall Astra 5-door

The Vauxhall Astra 5-door is a small family car produced by Opel, a subsidiary of General Motors. It is badged as an Opel in continental Europe, the Republic of Ireland, the Middle East, North Africa, South Africa, and India; Vauxhall in the United Kingdom, Holden in Australasia, and Chevrolet in Latin America. In Russia, the Astra is sold as both an Opel and a Chevrolet. Since 2006, three generations of the Astra have been produced. Opel follows the naming convention of continuing the Opel Kadett lineage, thus referring to the first generation of Opel Astra as the Astra F (the last Opel Kadett was the Kadett E), while GM begins with Astra A. Models sold as Vauxhall, Holden or Chevrolet have different generation designations reflecting the history of those nameplates in their home markets and their naming conventions. The Astra is currently manufactured in Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Brazil, South Africa, India, Poland, and Russia, as well as being assembled in CKD (completely knocked-down) kits in other countries. It mainly competes with the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf. The Vauxhall Astra 5-door is offered in various body styles, including a 3-door and a 5-door hatchback, a 4-door saloon, a 2-door coupé (GTC), and a convertible (Cabrio). It is also available with electronic Continuous Damping Control (CDC), AFL (Adaptive Forward Lighting), a panoramic windscreen, and an option for digital radio. With the Astra Diesel Hybrid, GM Europe also launched the 3-door GTC sports hatchback. The Astra is powered by various engines, including a natural gas-powered engine, a hybrid powertrain, and a 1.8L turbocharged petrol engine that produces 200 bhp. It also forms the base of a 7-seater MPV, the Opel Zafira. Some markets such as Australia and New Zealand market the Polish-built Astra as the Astra Classic, which has now been replaced by the Daewoo Lacetti but re-badged as the Holden Viva. In Latin America, the Astra continues as the Chevrolet Astra. In 2004, GM-AvtoVAZ, a joint venture between GM and VAZ, launched the Chevrolet Viva, a 4-door version of the Astra G.
