Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer
The latest addition to the new Vauxhall Astra family promises to further extend the car's appeal. According to SMM figures, the new Astra model has already seen 12,465 registrations in the UK since its launch in December 2009. This has contributed to Vauxhall's 12.6 per cent market share, as well as to a notable presence in the Lower-Medium sector, where the new Astra Hatch has topped both the retail and fleet charts, obtaining 15.74 and 19.70 per cent of sales, respectively.
Vauxhall customers have responded positively to the perceived quality and the great driving dynamics of the Astra, similar to those of its Mid-Size sibling, the Insignia. The Astra Sports Tourer will be made exclusively at Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port plant in Cheshire, while upper-body engineering will involve the Vauxhall Engineering Centre in Bedfordshire. As with the recently released Astra hatch, the Sports Tourer has been adapted for use on UK roads.
In terms of practicality and equipment, the new Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer features improved packaging, allowing for a maximum load length of 1835mm, as well as an increase of 30 liters load volume, taking it up to 500 liters with the rear seats up. The wheelbase remains the same as that of the hatch, at 2685mm.
