In January 2005, Vauxhall announced the original hot hatch Astra VXR. During the summer of the same year, the Astra Mark 5 with a 2.0i turbo 16V engine (Z20LEH) was released to the public. This model produced a whopping 236 bhp (176 kW), allowing it to accelerate from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in a speedy 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 152 mph (245 km/h). To set it apart from the regular Astra, the VXR featured unique aesthetic elements such as a trapezoidal rear exhaust, 18" six-spoke alloy wheels with 225/40R18 tyres (optional 19" 10-spoke wheels) and a body kit with a spoiler, front fog lamps and lowered and uprated suspensions.
