Vauxhall Corsa VXR
The Vauxhall Corsa VXR is here, and it certainly lives up to the hype! This performance flagship of the range has been designed to deliver the ultimate in hot-hatch driving excitement and style. Visually, it is distinguishable with several unique VXR styling cues, such as its triangular shaped mirrors, front fog lamp surrounds, and centre-exit exhaust tailpipe. The aggressive front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and a angular roof spoiler add to the muscular look of the three-door car. A mesh front grille, blue-painted brake callipers and optional 18-inch alloys complete the striking design.
Inside, luxury meets function with the specially sculpted, shell-backed Recaro sports seats, and race-car style flat-bottomed steering wheel. The facia and dials all feature unique VXR detailing, with drilled alloy pedals and piano black trim accentuating the luxurious interior.
Under the hood, a compact 1.6-litre turbocharged engine is delivering 192PS, allowing the Corsa VXR to go from 0-60mph in 6.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 140mph. Its 'overboost' facility increases torque output on demand to a maximum of more than 260Nm. Keeping the powerful engine in check is a dynamically-designed chassis with a specially-tuned ESP system, upgraded brakes and suspension, and variably-assisted power steering for optimal handling.
Despite its formidable power, the Corsa VXR is surprisingly fuel efficient; on extra-urban routes it returns 44.1mpg, with a combined fuel economy figure of 35.8mpg. The car will make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and will be available from Vauxhall retailers for mid-March, with prices to be announced nearer to on-sale date.
