Volkswagen Bora 1998 posters

Volkswagen Bora

The Volkswagen Bora, known as the Jetta in Europe and Latin America, debuted in late 1998. Its design featured rounded edges and an arched roofline, which became the new Volkswagen styling trademark, replacing the traditional sharp creases. It had four trim levels - GL, GLS, GLX, and GLI - and could also be bought as a station wagon. This version was known as the Golf in some markets, and had a Golf grille, headlights, bumper, and fenders. The base GL was powered by a 2.0 L 8-valve four cylinder engine, and was available with a 1.9 L TDI diesel engine from 2001. A turbocharged 1.8 L engine (Wolfsburg Edition) was also released in 2001. As production issues were fixed with later model years, these Jettas gained more popularity. In 2003, the Wolfsburg edition had an upgraded 1.8 L engine with 180hp, and a drive-by-wire 24-valve design VR6 engine was released, rated at 200 hp (150 kW). The mid-level GLS came with the option of leather seats and a sport package with 17" alloy wheels and a stiffer suspension. All engine options were offered until 2003, when the VR6 was dropped. The luxury GLX featured leather seats, wood grain trim, automatic climate control, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The GLI was available with the same amenities, but also included the sport suspension, six-speed manual transmission, and the 200 hp (150 kW) VR6. In 2004, the GLX model was discontinued.
