Volkswagen CrossGolf

Volkswagen has unveiled their latest version of the Golf at the Paris Motor Show: the CrossGolf, a crossover model which combines the capabilities of an SUV and the versatility of an MPV. Developed by Volkswagen's experts division in matters of refinement and special vehicles, Volkswagen believes it has no direct competitors due to its own unique positioning. Positioning the CrossGolf between the two vehicle types, it features SUV-style front-wheel drive, a 480,000 compact SUV sales in Europe in 2005, and an approximate 1.4 million MPVs sold in the same year. It is based on the Golf Plus Sportline, with practical refinements such as a foldable back seat that can be moved lengthwise, folding tables on the backs of the front seats, and pigeonholes below. It takes design elements from the SUV world with special side coverings, independent bumpers, a 20mm higher ground clearance, and 17-inch rims. When it launches in November, the Volkswagen CrossGolf will offer two gasoline-powered (1.6 and 1.4 TSI) and two turbodiesel engines (1.9 TDI and 2.0 TDI), ranging from 75 kW / 102 PS to 103 kW / 140 PS. Standard equipment includes ESP stabilization system, ABS, brake assistant, trailer stabilization, and six airbags, as well as "Climatic" air-conditioning system.
