In only three and a half years, the first-generation Volkswagen Golf Plus has firmly established its presence in the Golf line-up, becoming synonymous with a blend of van-like cleverness and the renowned compactness of a VW Golf. This has seen hundreds of thousands of drivers across Europe opt for the higher interior and seating heights, added variability and improved comfort that the model offers. Now, Volkswagen is expanding on this success with a brand new and updated Volkswagen Golf Plus, which is on show at the 2008 Bologna Motor Show. The all-new model can be expected to reach the European market as early as March 2009.
The updated and re-fashioned exterior of the new ‘Plus’ carries cues of the recently unveiled sixth generation Golf. This can be seen from the refreshed front-end, as well as a repositioned rear bumper and roof rails. Further enhancing its looks are the variety of alloy- and steel-wheel options. Inside, drivers can look forward to new upholstery materials and other features modeled after the Golf’s interior, such as its instrument cluster, steering wheel choices and automatic climate control system (Climatronic).
The new Golf Plus also brings to the table a host of technical upgrades that were featured in the new Golf. Such details include the powerful yet quiet common-rail turbo diesel engines, with a range of 66 kW/90 PS to 103 kW/140 PS, resulting in an impressive fuel economy of up to 0.8 liters/100 km.
