The new Golf BlueMotion is a real highlight at Volkswagen's IAA exhibition area this year in Frankfurt. It boasts unmatchable fuel economy of just 4.5 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers - an extraordinary 0.6 liter improvement compared to the already very efficient previous model. With its class-defying performance, practicality, and environmental benefits, it easily surpasses the five liter fuel economy mark. CO2 emissions are decreased from 135 g/km to 119 g/km, and its top speed has increased from 187 km/h to 190 km/h (electronically limited). The acceleration to 100 km/h remains unchanged at 11.3 seconds.
To achieve such impressive results, several modifications have been made such as modifications to the body, a fuel-optimized direct-injection turbo-diesel with fill particulate filter, modified gear ratios, and tires with reduced rolling resistance. Filling up with a 55-liter tank of fuel allows the Golf BlueMotion to cover over 1,200 kilometers. For an average annual driving distance of 12,600 kilometers typical of this model, this translates to only one gas station trip per month.
