Volkswagen Golf GTI Concept 2003 posters

Volkswagen Golf GTI Concept

The fifth-generation Golf was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in October 2003 and went on sale in Europe the following month. It was released in the US in January 2006 in GTI form until spring 2006. To commemorate the introduction of the new Golf, Wolfsburg was renamed "Golfsburg" for one week. Volkswagen of America announced the decision to bring back the Rabbit nameplate to the US and Canadian markets before the Golf's North American launch in June 2006. It is still sold in Europe as the Golf. Volkswagen of America promotes affordability and production in Wolfsburg, Germany. Most of the Rabbit's print ads showcase the old Rabbit logo (a running rabbit, familiar to most Americans) with the phrase "It's back, at $14,990". TV ads depict Rabbits chasing each other in numbers that steadily increase until they fill the streets of a city, implying the phrase "multiplying like rabbits". Design and engineering As the previous model's interior quality amazed competitors and pushed them to improve their own models, the impressive chassis and all-round performance of the Mk I Ford Focus left Volkswagen (and other rivals) startled. To address criticism of the previous model's average dynamics, Volkswagen recruited the Ford engineering team that designed the multi-link "control blade" rear suspension system of the Ford Focus- widely considered the leader in ride and handling. Thus, the Golf V's modified wishbone rear suspension shows striking similarities to the Focus's.
