Volkswagen London Taxi Concept

A bold new concept has been unveiled in London to pay homage to a British tradition - the Volkswagen London Taxi Concept. Developed as the latest evolution in the series of ‘World Taxis’ (Berlin & Milano) from the chassis of the anticipated UP! city car, the eye-catching ride made its debut as part of a project spearheaded by Klaus Bischoff, Volkswagen’s Head of Design. The Concept is designed to facilitate ease and efficiency in today's urban settings, featuring an electric motor and lithium-ion batteries that generate 45 kW/h of power and 115 PS of maximum output - good for a potential top speed of 74 mph. It is estimated to have a range of 186 miles per charge, and an 80% charge typically takes around an hour. Its dimensions (3,730 mm in length, 1,680 mm in width, 1,600 mm in height) make it shorter than a Volkswagen Fox, but the long wheelbase and short overhangs provide a roomy interior space suitable for two adults and their luggage. The interior ambience is one of peaceful simplicity. The driver and passengers both have individual touchscreen displays for climate, entertainment, and fare information. The cream leather and subtle light fixtures ensure the cabin feels quite luxurious. As for the exterior, it takes after the UP!, Space UP!, and Space UP! Blue design with thoughtful additions like the silver Union Jack on the roof, City of London’s coat of arms on either side, and a roof-mounted Taxi light that glows green when free and red when not. The 60:40 split tailgate and two rear cubbies offer space for the driver's personal items. Though not designed to meet the necessary requirements for a legal London Taxi, the Concept showcases a potential future of fuel-efficient cabs.
