Volkswagen Lupo 3L TDI
The Volkswagen Lupo is a city car which was created to cater for those seeking a relatively smaller vehicle in comparison to the larger VW Polo. Its competition includes the Ford Ka, Opel Agila and Fiat Panda, with all being heavily badge-engineered derivatives of one another.
The Lupo is available with different engine sizes and trim levels, while the 6-speed Lupo GTI has been branded the successor to the VW Golf Mk.1, known as the first true hot hatch.
A number of limited-edition Lupos have performed exceptionally on fuel economy, notably the 3L TDI model which has been able to achieve a remarkable 3 litres per 100 kilometres (78 miles per US gallon or 94 miles per Imperial gallon.) This has been attributed to its lightweight build and advanced 3-cylinder diesel engine. In fact, it has been rumored that the Lupo 3L's success was the reason behind the compliments Clio V6.
The Lupo is no longer being produced as of 2005 and has been succeeded by the VW Fox.
