Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion Concept
The Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion Concept is poised to become the world's most fuel-efficient five-seater car. Its fuel consumption is 3.3 liters per 100 kilometers and its CO2 emissions are slim at only 87 g/km! Development Chief Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg and his team say they plan to begin production of the 1.2 liter TDI with common rail injection in February 2010.
In addition to the TDI engine, the Polo BlueMotion Concept also features an automatic start-stop system and regenerative braking which help reduce fuel consumption by 0.2 liters per 100 kilometers. Volkswagen has also equipped the 1,080-kilogram Polo with an aerodynamic design reduced by 10 millimeters, a low-drag underbody, and low-rolling resistance tires on 15-inch alloy wheels. All of these features together have reduced CO2 emissions by 20 percent, or 0.8 liters.
