Volkswagen Polo Classic 1999 posters

Volkswagen Polo Classic

The Mk III Polo 6N was released in 1994 and featured a completely new model/chassis - a platform which was shared with the Ibiza Mk II, launched a year prior, and the Volkswagen Golf III. Outwardly, the Polo and the Ibiza were quite different car models, with no body panels being interchanged. Following the success of the 6N, a Polo Classic sedan and Polo Variant station wagon were added to the range, both of which were badge-engineered versions of the SEAT Cordoba. The Volkswagen Caddy van shares the same platform and front end styling as these models. The Polo was offered initially with the 1043 cc (45 PS/33 kW) and 1272cc (55 PS/40 kW) engines from its predecessor and a new 1598 cc unit. A 1.4 L engine was then added in 1996 and a 999cc multi-point injection engine that produced 50 PS (37 kW) replaced the 1043cc in 1997. The Classic and Variant models had either a 75 PS (55 kW) or 100 PS (74 kW) 1.6 L engine option, or a 64 PS (47 kW) 1.9 L diesel. For the first time a turbocharged diesel, also with a 1.9L engine, was included in the 6K models. The standard 3 and 5-door 6N got its own Turbodiesel engine during the 2000 facelift. A convertible version was not produced, however the Polo Open Air, with its electrically sliding full length sunroof, was available.
