Volkswagen Polo GTI 1999 posters

Volkswagen Polo GTI

The sixth generation Volkswagen Polo, the Mk III Polo 6N, made its debut in 1994. Sporting a completely different design than its predecessor, the 6N Polo included both 3-door and 5-door hatchback models, aiming to address the lack of a 5-door version and underpowered performance. Mechanically, 6N Polo shares the same floorpan with the VW Golf III, and many interchangeable parts and suspension components. In 1995, the 6K Polo family was released, which consisted of the Polo Classic sedan, the Polo Wagon, and the Caddy van. In actual fact, the 6K Polo models were essentially rebadged SEAT Ibiza, and just like the Ibiza, they shared body panels with one another. A 1.4 L engine was introduced two years later, replacing the 1.3 L engine. Making its debut in 1997, a 999 cc engine was introduced to the Polo, providing 50 PS (37 kW) of power. As for the 6K models, they were equipped with either a 1.6 L generating 75 PS (55 kW) or a 100 PS (74 kW), or the 1.9 L diesel boasting 64 PS (47 kW). A turbodiesel 1.9 L was made available for the 6K models, while the 3 and 5-door hatchbacks had to wait until the facelift in 2000 to enjoy it.
