Volkswagen Polo Variant

The Volkswagen Polo 6N was launched in 1994, with 3-door and 5-door hatchback versions. It was a completely new model/chassis and was designed to address its predecessor's shortcomings, like the lack of a 5-door option and weak performance. Although its dashboard and several mechanical parts were shared with the Ibiza, the two cars had no shared body panels. One year later, a sedan (Polo Classic) and station wagon (Polo Variant) were added to the lineup. These were both badge engineered variants of the SEAT Cordoba and were referred to internally as 6K at Volkswagen. Mechanically, the Polo shared the same floorpan as the Golf III and had an array of interchangeable parts with both the Ibiza and the Golf III. The Polo was also available with a variety of engines including the 1043 cc (45 PS/33 kW), 1272 cc (55 PS/40 kW) and 1598 cc. A new 1.4 L engine was implemented in 1996, while the 1043 cc engine was swapped out for an aluminium block multi-point injection 999 cc unit producing 50 PS (37 kW). The 6K models featured either a 75 PS (55 kW) 1.6 L or a 64 PS (47 kW) 1.9 L diesel, which could also be a turbodiesel model. The Polo 6N didn't get a turbodiesel until its 2000 facelift. The Volkswagen Caddy van had the same platform and front end styling as the 6K variants. To top it off, there was also a version of the Polo with an electric sliding full length sunroof, known as the Polo Open Air.
