Volkswagen is introducing the world premier of a new generation of its luxury class Touareg SUV in Paris. The new version of the top-seller will start to be available at the end of November 2006, featuring more than 2,300 redesigned parts and a completely different front design with distinctive headlights, a crest radiator grill, and other features. The Touareg also boasts an array of innovative technical developments, including ABSplus, a Volkswagen patented system that shortens the SUV's braking distance on loose driving surfaces, such as gravel and sand, by up to 20%. This is accomplished with a traction control system that presses surface material in front of the locked up wheels. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) also comes with a follow-to-stop feature in its combination, called Front Scan. This radar-based system automatically speeds up and slows down the vehicle within a set range of speed, and it even stops the vehicle in emergency situations. Stopping distance is also enhanced by the distance control built into the ACC system.
