The Volkswagen Touran is a compact MPV with a vertically stretched fifth generation Volkswagen Golf as its base model. It was launched in 2003 to meet the demand for a smaller MPV compared to the popular Volkswagen Sharan. It comes in 2, 5, or 7 seating configurations. It is essentially a larger version of the Volkswagen Golf Plus with the same front-end size, but is 20 cm longer, and as such is available as a 7-seater. In certain countries, such as Japan, it is referred to as Golf Touran.
