The all-new Volvo S40 has been designed to be 2.2 inches shorter than the previous Volvo S40/V40, however it has improved in terms of product content, competitiveness and interior volume. Volvo Cars President and CEO, Hans-Olov Olsson, stated, "We have upgraded our cars continuously over the years, and with the Volvo S40 being the latest addition, we are confident in growing our market share in the coming years." He added, "The new S40 offers an attractive design with exceptional road manners - making it a serious contender in this sector." Rejuvenating the brand is one of Volvo Cars' plans - which the Volvo S40 is helping to achieve, as the car is expected to attract younger buyers. “It's important that the new S40 appeals to people of all ages, but young buyers in particular,” comments Hans-Olov Olsson. This is clearly visible in the USA, where an estimated one-third of sales are expected to be made up of buyers who have no children, with the average age of purchasers being around 30-35 years. “For a European car, this is a very low figure, reinforcing the idea that our new sedan has a youthful appeal” concludes Olsson.
