At the 2008 Paris Motor Show, Volvo Cars proudly unveiled a groundbreaking new range of diesel models across the C30, S40 and V50 vehicles that boasted staggeringly low fuel consumption of just 4.4 litres/100 km (C30) or 4.5 litres/100 km (S40 and V50), and correspondingly remarkable CO2 emissions of 115 and 118 g/km - making the C30 and V50 the lowest emitters in their segments. These cars featured a range of efficiency-enhancing features and marked with the DRIVe emblem to signal their eco-friendly properties. This DRIVe range stemmed from the Volvo C30 Efficiency concept carfrom the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, introducing a far-reaching mission to reduce CO2 emissions and developing into production for these three models by the end of the year. "With emission levels below 120 g CO2/km for the V50, we are now offering practical cars that make an active environmental statement," explains Volvo Cars President and CEO Fredrik Arp. This impressive efficiency was achieved by looking at the vehicle as a whole, dissecting areas of possible improvement in terms of driving performance and economy.
