Zagato is an Italian company, dealing with coachbuilding and design. It's located in Rho, near Milan. more
The company was found in 1919 when Ugo Zagato started to build coaches. While all vehicles of that time were rather heavy, Ugo started to work at more lightweight ones. In 1920s, he focused on the production of racing cars. Modification of Alfa Romeo 6C in 1925 was very successful and resulted in its victory at 1928 Mille Miglia.
After the Second World War, Zagato started the rebirth of his company with new “Panoramica” bodies with large glazed areas. In 1947, Elio Zagato, a son of Ugo, became a new manager of the company. In 1949, he was one of the founders of the Gran Turismo category. In 1960, Ugo Zagato got a Compasso d'Oro design award for the design of the Fiat Abarth 1000 Zagato. In 1970s, in response to the oil crisis, the brand started to design electric cars.
In 1996, the Lamborghini Raptor, built by Zagato, was named the best concept car of the year. In 2000s, Zagato provided projects for Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Maserati, Spyker, Diatto and Alfa Romeo brands and that considerably contributed to its success. Since 2010, Zagato works at the modification of the most iconic cars, like Aston Martin V12 Zagato, BMW Zagato Coupe and Roadster, Lamborghini 5-95 Zagato.
