BMW 330Ci Convertible

The BMW E46 is a popular compact executive car produced from 1998 to 2007. It first released in sedan style, followed by their coupé and touring body styles available to all markets. Later in 2000, their convertible and hatchback body style was made available in Europe, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. All-wheel dive ("xDrive") was reintroduced in the 3 Series for the six-cylinder 325xi and 330xi sedan/wagon models in this generation as well. This particular model proved to be popular, having reached their record selling year with 561,249 in 2002. Common competitors for the E46 were the Alfa Romeo 156, Audi A4, Lexus IS/Toyota Altezza, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Saab 9-3, and the Volvo S60. The M3 version of the E46 was powered by the BMW S54 straight-six engine, and could be purchased in both coupé and convertible body styles. It featured two transmissions option, either a 6-speed manual or the 6-speed "SMG-II" sequential manual gearbox. The E46 was designed as a continuation of the BMW E36 chassis, and was designed in 1995 by Erik Goplen under DesignworksUSA. It was built to improve aerodynamic stability and have an aggressive stance. As for the interior design, the in-car entertainment system (Radio Function, Navigation System, Television and Telecommunications systems) is based on an automotive computer system which allowed for easy upgrades and the compatibility of BMW's Bluetooth System, DVD based Navigation system, as well as their CD changers playing MP3s. BMW also put an emphasis on reducing unsprung weight and increasing structural rigidity, hence the highest displacement model in the E46 series, the E46 328, had only 3 horsepower more than its predecessor. With a curb weight of 1450 kg, it was heavier than the E36 equivalent though, by 55 kg. As per BMW's core values, the E46 was released with a rear-wheel drive layout and 50/50 weight distribution to optimum the drivetrain layout.
