BMW 530d Touring

The BMW E60/E61 series is the fifth generation of the BMW 5 Series which was available from 2003 to 2010. It was launched in the sedan body style, with the "Touring" (wagon/estate) body style being added in 2004 and replaced by the F10/F11 5 Series in 2010. The M5 variant was released in 2005 and was powered by the S85 V10 engine, sold in both sedan and wagon body styles, with most cars coming equipped with a 7-speed automated manual transmission ("SMG III").

Development

Development of the E60 began in 1997 and was finished in 2003. The design, created by Davide Arcangeli under the directorship of Chris Bangle, was approved in 2000 and German design patents filed in April 2002.

Comparison with predecessor

Compared to its E39 predecessor, the E60 is longer, wider, heavier and higher, providing more interior and trunk space. Its styling differs from the E39, featuring a much rounder body and a flat interior with an LCD display, basic buttons and iDrive system, in contrast to the E39's driver-oriented design.

Aftermarket parts

The E60 experienced much acclaim from the automotive community, leading to specialist companies producing a variety of aftermarket parts for it, including copies of M-Sport parts, offered by companies such as Hamann, AC Schnitzer, Hartge and Dinan. Numerous performance parts were also made available for the already swift E60.
