The BMW 8 Series bears its own unique mark in the long-standing historical BMW Coupe lineage. A completely original design, this vehicle dubbed "E31" by BMW, not only came with an impressive deportment of sophistication and allure, but also was equipped with the ultimate wealth of modern technologies. Its wedge-shaped body demanded admiration with its creased hood, seamless lines, absence of B-pillars, and sloping rear. This sleek car was also the second model from post-WWII Germany to offer a 5.0-litre V12 engine; the 850i model developing 300 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque that could propel the 2+2-Seater to the 100km/h mark within 6.8 seconds. Drivers of these luxury coupes had a selection of transmissions: the Six-speed manual gearbox and four-speed automatic transmission, both developed from scratch for the 8 Series. Additionally, the 850i featured the most advanced chassis technology with its integral rear axle and five-link suspension, as well as the automatic stability and traction control, speed-sensitive power-steering, and the EDC system. Extravagantly designed, uniquely equipped and praised for its driving dynamics, the BMW 8 Series was rightly appointed the "coupe of velvet and silk”.
