BMW H2R

Sleek and aerodynamic, the BMW H2R ("Hydrogen Record Car") is part of a groundbreaking new type of race car designed for liquid hydrogen fuel. Developed in a mere 10 months, it has already made a huge mark on the racing world by setting nine international speed records at France's Miramas Proving Grounds. This remarkable specimen is powered by a 6.0-liter V-12 engine which incorporates BMW's Valvetronic and Double-VANOS technologies, echoing those used in the 760i's gasoline-fueled powerplant. With the H2-fueled engine, the H2R generates an impressive 232 horsepower, enabling it to reach a top speed of 187 mph. Technical data At Miramas, the BMW H2R established nine international, FIA-ratified records powered by its hydrogen combustion engine, such as: - Maximum speed: 300.175 km/h - Engine: twelve-cylinder hydrogen concept engine - Nominal engine power: 210 kW / 282 bhp - Bodyshell: aluminium space frame structure - Outer shell: carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic - Vehicle dimensions: 5.40m long, 2.01m wide, 1.34m high - Vehicle weight including driver: 1,560 kg - Drag coefficient (cw): 0.21 Records The H2R racked up the following times and speeds at the Miramas track: - Flying-start kilometre: 11.99s 187.62 mph - Flying-start mile: 19.91s 181.85 mph - Standing-start 1/8 kilometre: 9.92s 45.62 mph - Standing-start 1/4 kilometre: 14.93s 60.62 mph - Standing-start 1/2 mile: 17.27s 65.15 mph - Standing-start mile: 36.73s 98.60 mph - Standing-start 10 miles: 221.05s 163.81 mph - Standing-start kilometre: 26.56s 84.72 mph - Standing-start 10 kilometres: 146.41s 153.90 mph
