At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Chevrolet revealed the 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray Convertible. Boasting an estimated 450 horsepower (335 kW) and 450 lb.-ft. of torque (610 Nm), it is the most powerful standard Corvette to date. “The convertible has been part of the heart and soul of Corvette since its beginnings in 1953,” said Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design. “We designed and developed the coupe and convertible simultaneously, so the Corvette Stingray offers an open-top driving experience without compromising on performance, technology or design.” The Corvette Stingray coupe and convertible models will be available globally in late 2013, with certain changes in equipment to meet each market's regulations such as lighting, headlamp washers and outside mirrors. “It is befitting to showcase the new Stingray convertible on the global stage of Geneva, as Corvette is the face of Chevrolet throughout the world,” commented Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac Europe. “It is an icon of admiration even in those countries it has never been officially offered." All of the performance technologies and capabilities introduced for the Corvette Stingray coupe are also offered for the convertible. The only alterations are to accommodate the folding top and repositioned safety belt mounts. The more rigid, lightweight aluminum frame structure of the Corvette Stingray – which is 57 percent stiffer and 45 kg lighter than the current steel frame – is the centerpiece of the driving experience.
