The company was established in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet, a racer and automotive engineer, and William C. Durant as the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. In 1913, the famous bowtie logo, which you can see on any company’s advertizing poster, was introduced. The official version of the logo creation is that Durant saw this design on wallpaper in a hotel during his trip to France. The other versions state that Durant saw this emblem in a newspaper, where the "Coalettes" coal company was advertized and their logo looked like the actual Chevrolet emblem, or that the emblem resembles a Swiss flag as Louis Chevrolet was born in Switzerland.
Though the company had several prototypes before, the first car was produced in 1913. In 1917, Durant became a president of General Motors and made Chevrolet a subdivision of the corporation. In 1933, it started to produce the Standard Six, which became the cheapest six-cylinder car in America. And in 1960s, Chevrolet was one of the bestselling car brands due to their good price and quality.
Since 2005, Chevrolet brand was re-launched in Europe, using Korean cars Daewoo. The company also managed to recover from economic crisis of 2007-2010, producing new models and improving the old ones. In 2010, Chevrolet began to produce plug-in electric Chevrolet Volt, which became the North American Car of the Year, European Car of the Year and World Green Car of the Year in 2012.
Chevrolet cars often took part in various races, including NASCAR, Indycar, 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
