Chrysler PT Cruiser

The Chrysler PT Cruiser is a classic, retro-styled station wagon first introduced as an entry-level model of the Chrysler marque in 2001. To produce the model, Chrysler designed a separate platform combining aspects of the 1997 Chrysler CCV prototype and the Plymouth Pronto concept. The vehicle is a 5-passenger, front-wheel drive model classified by the EPA as a truck under CAFE fuel economy calculations, but as a car by all other metrics. An upgraded GT model with a turbocharged engine was introduced for the 2003 model year, and a 4-seat convertible model was added for 2005. The PT Cruiser underwent major exterior and interior upgrades for the 2006 model year. The headlights, grille, and taillights were redesigned. On the inside, the PT added more upscale materials to its dashboard and audio system, which is integrated into the dashboard and features a line-in jack for MP3 players. This engine is now available in 180 hp (134 kW) or "High-Output" 230 hp (172 kW) versions. The official abbreviation of the model, “PT,” stands for “Personal Transportation” as well as the car’s platform: "Platform Tall," as opposed to the Chrysler PL platform used for the Neon. The car is manufactured at the Toluca Car Assembly in Mexico, with a European plant located in Graz, Austria. Since its inception, the PT Cruiser has been a well-received model with honors that include Car and Driver's Ten Best list for 2001 and the North American Car of the Year award in the same year.
