Chrysler (officially FCA US LLC) is an American car manufacturer, which pertains to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and is one of the "Big Three" American automobile manufacturers (the other ones are General Motors and Ford Motor Company). The company was established in 1924 by Walter Chrysler after the reorganization of Maxwell Motor Company. Just the same year, it released its first six-cylinder car. In 1928, the company bought Fargo truck company and the Dodge Brothers Company and created two more automobile brands, Plymouth and DeSoto.
In 1960s, the company created the Chrysler Europe division after the purchase of several European brands. In 1987, it bought American Motors Corporation and became an owner of the Jeep brand. In 1998, Chrysler merged with Daimler-Benz AG, creating DaimlerChrysler AG. Since 2014, the brand is owned by Fiat and its full name is FCA US LLC.
Chrysler also produced electric and hybrid cars. It released its first electric car, Dodge EPIC, in 1992. In 2008, two first hybrid models, Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango, were presented. However, now Chrysler prefers to create cars for alternative fuels more than to produce electric and hybrid cars.
Moreover, Chrysler produced air raid sirens in 1950s, aircraft Chrysler VZ-6 and made its contribution to creation of missiles and space boosters.
The company’s legendary pentastar logo, seen on every company’s advertisement poster, was created in 1962 as a universally relatable logo, which would suit any automotive design trend. Moreover, it was easy to remember and that was what the company needed. However, in 2014, Chrysler owners stated that the logo would be changed.
In 2014, Chrysler was also called the seventh biggest automaker in the world by production.
