The Fiat Stilo (Type 192) is a small family car with a range of body types, available as a 3-door and 5-door hatchback, as well as an estate (Fiat Stilo MultiWagon). The first model was unveiled at the Bologna Motor Show in November 2001 and took the place of the Fiat Bravo/Brava. While its successor, the Bravo, is popular in most markets, the 5-door Stilo stayed in production in Brazil until December 2010. Initially, the car was available with a 1242 cc DOHC 16 valve petrol engine, which was also used on Punto and Lancia Ypsilon at 80 PS (59 kW; 79 hp). Later, Fiat added a 103 PS 1.6 L with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 133 PS 1.8 L also with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Additionally, a 170 PS (125 kW; 168 hp), 5-cylinder, 2.4 L engine was combined with a Selespeed 5-speed semi-automatic gearbox such as on the Alfa Romeo 147 and Alfa Romeo 156. There were varying diesel engines too, including an 8 valve 1.9 JTD with 80 PS (59 kW; 79 hp), 100 PS (74 kW; 99 hp), 116 PS (85 kW; 114 hp), 120 PS (88 kW; 118 hp) and 16 valve 140 PS (103 kW; 138 hp) and 150 PS (110 kW; 148 hp). Although the styling of the Fiat Stilo faced mixed reviews - some find it too German-looking or bland -, it came with high levels of grip (wide tires), good brakes, and, depending on the engine, fuel economy. One downside was the excessive weight, as well as the rear torsion beam suspension that caused a lack of handling enthusiasm. Additionally, the Selespeed gearbox on the high-powered Abarth version was noted to be sluggish.
