Ford EB II Falcon GT 1992 posters

Ford EB II Falcon GT

The 1991 Ford EB Falcon had few external changes from its predecessor; however, the Ford emblem was moved from the bonnet to the grille, and reversing lamps now featured on either side of the rear number plate. In addition, the air vents on the C-pillars were removed. The introduction of the V8 engine to the Falcon was well-received by motoring press, but the 5.0 litre Windsor unit did not make its way onto the utility variants until the XH series of 1997. Alterations to the front suspension geometry made the EB even more grippy and proficient in steering. Ford took the opportunity to revive the GT specification level - exclusive to 250 units - to mark the 25th anniversary of the first Falcon GT. XR6 and XR8 sports models joined the EB series for the first time. When the Series II model arrived in April 1992, the six-cylinder engine size had been increased by 35 cubic centimetres. In addition, the transmission and electronics had been improved and the exterior elements, such as the body-coloured bumpers, now had a glossy finish. Ford spent AU$1 million on this significant update. The EBII was the first Falcon to offer anti-lock brakes as an option. In 1993, lap sash seatbelts were made standard for the centre rear seat. Ford also added the "Smartlock" security locking system, which South Australian Police tested by inviting four burglars to attempt to successfully steal an EB which was specified with the system. Their efforts proved to be unsuccessful, taking them four days to give in. Ford took further measures to ensure safety in the EBII with foam-filled A-pillars which improved crush protection and heightened the level of Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH).
