Lancia Rally 037 Gruppo B 1982 posters

Lancia Rally 037 Gruppo B

Developed by Lancia and Abarth - a car maker under the FIAT corporate wing - in the early 1980s, the Lancia Rally (also known as the Lancia Abarth #037) was built purely for the FIA Group B World Rally Championship. This mid-engine race car featured a 2.0litre 4-cylinder supercharged engine delivering around 250bhp, and was upgraded to 325bhp when the 2.1 litre 'Evolution' variant came out in 1984. Loosely based on the Lancia Monte Carlo (or Scorpion in the US and Canadian markets), this rally machine was code-named 037 by Abarth, their project number being 37. The Lancia Rally 037 was piloted to success by Walter Röhrl, who led the car to the 1983 WRC title. Although it wasn't well suited for gravel events, largely due to its lack of 4WD, the 037 still managed to finish at the '86 Safari rally, with Markku Alen in third place.
