Celebrating its 40th birthday on 17 June, 2010, the Land Rover Range Rover is renowned for being one of the most significant vehicles in motoring history. The Range Rover was the world's first vehicle with the ability to be just as good on-road as off-road, as well as the first fully capable luxury 4x4 of its kind - a real milestone in the development of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV). Phil Popham, Land Rover Managing Director, stated that "Land Rover has a unique history of product innovation. The Land Rover Range Rover is comprised of three generations. The original model, now known as the Classic, went on sale in 1970 and was tailor-made into numerous variants for just over 25 years. Elements of the P38a, the second-generation vehicle, were produced between 1994 and 2001, before being replaced by the current version that has achieved higher annual sales than prior models. Available in London, Los Angeles, Sydney, Shanghai, Turin, and Tokyo, the Range Rover is the premier choice for luxury vehicles.
Managing Director Phil Popham also commented on the Range Rover's versatility, "It's a seven-days-a-week luxury motor car; a leisure vehicle that will range far and wide on the highways and noways of the world; a high performance car for long distance travel; and a working cross-country vehicle."
