The brand logo comprises of a green oval with the company name inside, written in white. The green color signifies growth and freshness while the white color is the symbol of excellence and charm. For more than 60 years, the company’s logo underwent just a few modifications. You can see the earlier versions of the emblem on some old company’s posters.
The first Land Rover car was designed in 1947 by Maurice Wilks, who worked for the Rover Company. It was built of Jeep chassis and axles as the creator was inspired by Jeep cars. The early Land Rover cars were only light green. After the car exhibition in Amsterdam in 1948, Land Rover cars arose much interest and soon, these cars brought much profit to Rover company. Thus, the designers received more opportunities to improve the existing models, according to their clients’ demands. Men of arms, farmers, workers of rescue services found these cars ideal for heavy work. By 1959, the company already produced 250 000 vehicles.
In 1967, Leyland Motors Ltd purchased the brand. In 1970, Range Rover was introduced. From 1994 to 2000, Land Rover pertained to BMW, which later sold it to Ford. When the company was owned by Ford, it was associated with Jaguar as the both companies had common distribution network and shared some production facilities. In 2008, Ford sold Land Rover and Jaguar to Tata Motors, an Indian automobile manufacturer. However, Land Rover continues to use Ford engines.
Land Rover models are used by the military forces around the world, especially by the British and Australian Armies. In 2004, they were named the safest cars in Britain.
Like many other car brands, Land Rover also released concept cars Range Stormer, Land Rover LRX, Land Rover DC100 and Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept.
