Land Rover Range e Concept

At the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Land Rover presented its Land Rover Range_e, a development model equipped with a plug-in hybrid diesel-electric powertrain, which they hope to make available in future production models. The Range_e had been based on the Range Rover Sport and featured a 3.0-litre TDV6 diesel engine, along with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and a 69kW electric motor. The parallel hybrid system was powered by a 14.2kW/h lithium-ion battery, and the Range_e had zero tailpipe emissions when driven on electric power alone for over 20 miles. It could also be recharged from a domestic 240V power source in around four hours. With a full recharge, this innovative hybrid allowed drivers to cover up to 25 miles without consuming any fuel. Furthermore, the Range_e had an overall CO2 emission of only 89g/km, while having a system output of 339PS and a top speed of around 120mph. The hybrid system also enabled the Range_e to offer improved fuel efficiency of 85mpg, giving it a maximum range of 690 miles on a full tank of fuel.
