Seat Toledo 2005 posters

Seat Toledo

The SEAT Toledo is a model of automobile engineered and produced by SEAT, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. It was first introduced to the SEAT portfolio in 1991, while the third generation Toledo was rolled out in late 2004.

First generation (1991-1999)

The first Toledo model was the first SEAT car to be assembled under the direction and supervision of Volkswagen. The initial version was a saloon car, built on the Volkswagen Golf Mk II platform, featuring an elongated boot that gave it size similar to the Passat, although the Toledo’s rear cabin was smaller and its pricing much closer to that of a small family car.

At the beginning, the Toledo featured engines that were not overly powerful compared to the Ibiza and the Malaga’s System Porsche units. These included a 1.6 litre 75 PS (55 kW) base engine and a 2.0 litre GT version, with 115 PS (85 kW) of power. Later iterations included more powerful engines such as the 150 PS (110 kW) 2.0 litre GTI 16V and a 110 PS (81 kW) 1.9 litre TDI unit, which, like several other Volkswagen diesel engines introduced in 1996, was advertised as being capable of running on either mineral diesel or biodiesel.

One of the design features that set the Toledo apart from similar saloon cars was its rear boot lid, which had a hatchback opening.

Second generation (1999-2004)

The second generation Toledo was revealed in 1999. Its design was sleeker and more akin to a coupe than its boxy predecessor. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro’s Italdesign studio, the Toledo had many of the same components as the Skôda Octavia and Volkswagen Bora. It was, however, considered to be the sportiest of the three. Design features included an innovative translucent headlight setup and a heavily curved interior.
