Spyker was established in 1999 by Victor Muller and Maarten de Bruijn after getting legal rights for the brand name of Spyker or Spijker company, which produced aircraft and disappeared in 1925. That's why the company's logo has a rotary engine on it.
The brand is famous for its C8 Spyder and the C8 Laviolette sport cars. Spyker C8 Spyder was unveiled in 2000 at the Birmingham Motor Show. C8 Laviolette model was launched in 2001. The both cars have a 4172 cc Audi V8 engine and reach the top speed of 300 km/h.
In 2006, Spyker bought the Midland F1 team, but as it wasn’t very successful, it was sold to Orange India consortium. In 2007, together with Italian design company Zagato, Spyker introduced C12 Zagato, which became the most exclusive car of the brand. In 2010, the company bought Saab Automobile from General Motors, but in 2012 sold it to National Electric Vehicle Sweden.
In 2014, Spyker announced about its bankruptcy and the need of financial restructuring of the company, but in a year it continued to produce cars.
