Its logo is a shield, containing a stylized "T" letter with the brand name on the top. The colors of the emblem are silver and black, which are primarily associated with creativity and innovations.
Tesla Motors, named after famous physicist Nikola Tesla, started its work in 2003 though this idea existed since 1956. Engineers Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning managed to persuade several businessmen to invest into their project of creating their first electric vehicle. Among the investors were Google co-founders Sergey Brin & Larry Page, former eBay President Jeff Skoll and Elon Musk, one of the PayPal founders. The engineers’ aim was to build an electric powerful sports car, which would also be comfortable and practical.
In 2006, it presented its first sports car, Tesla Roadster, which is able to drive for 200 miles (320 km) without recharging. It received “Best Inventions 2006—Transportation Invention" award. In fact, this car set new standards for electric cars.
In 2012, Model S sedan, also called Whitestar, was released. It became the first business class electric vehicle. In 2012-2013, it was awarded with “The Car of the Year” titles by Motor Trend and Automobile Magazine, “World Green Car” and “Best 25 Inventions of the Year” awards. In 2013, it became the bestselling electric car in the world. It is also listed as one of Top 10 Fastest Cars in the World.
In 2012, the prototype of Tesla Model X was introduced. The company also works at more budget models. Since 2012, Tesla also builds a network of fast-charging Supercharger stations around the world.
