Daihatsu logo is a modified “D” letter in white on the red background. You can see this logo at the posters at all the distribution networks of the company. However, if you have a look at the Daihatsu cars, you will see that the emblem is made in silver grey color.
The company was established as Hatsudoki Seizo Co., Ltd. in 1907 by Turumi and Yoshinki, professors of the Osaka University. It dealt with production of gasoline powered engines. In 1951, the company changed its name to Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. In 1963, the company released its first car, Daihatsu Compagno, which became the first Japanese car to be imported to the UK. In 1966, its affiliate, Daihatsu Diesel Motor Manufacturing Company, was founded as the company, producing marine engines and diesel generators. In 1967, Daihatsu started to collaborate with Toyota Motor Corporation.
In 1971, the first models of Daihatsu Delta Truck were presented. In 1987, the company starts to sell its Charade model in the US. In 1988, Toyota became an owner of 51% of the company shares.
Daihatsu specializes in production of subcompact cars, compact and medium off-road vehicles, minivans and commercial vehicles. It’s also known as a manufacturer of electric and hybrid cars.
At the moment, Daihatsu exports cars to more than 140 countries around the world and owns plants not only in Japan, but also in Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Venezuela.
