MG is a British car brand, specializing in sports vehicles, saloons and coupes. more

The company was founded in 1924 by Cecil Kimber, a manager of automobile dealer “Morris Garages”. The company’s name, MG, is the abbreviation of the Morris Garages. MG 14/28 was the first car of the marque, released in 1924. In 1927, the first MG Midget, the most famous car of the brand, appeared. In 1928, the company separated from Morris Garages and became M.G. Car Company Limited. In 1935, the brand was sold to Morris Motors.

In 1950s, together with Austin Motor Company, MG became a part of the British Motor Corporation. In 1968, Rover, Jaguar, Triumph were acquired, forming British Leyland Corporation. Soon after this, MG ceased to be financed and its plants were closed. However, in 1982, the management of the British Leyland Corporation decided to produce high-performance saloon and hatchback models under MG brand. In 1986, the BL changed its name to the Rover Group and MG was sold to British Aerospace in 1988. In 1994, MG brand became a part of BMW. The MG name was again revived in 1993 when MG RV8 two-seater was launched.

In 2000, MG Rover Group received the rights for the MG brand. In 2005, it was bought by a Chinese company, Nanjing Automobile. Nanjing immediately started to modernize the MG models. In 2007, MG returned to the production of sports cars. In 2011, the company started to produce MG6 GT hatchback, the first new model of the brand for the 16 years.
