The Spirit of Ecstasy (which is also called “Emily”, “Silver Lady” and “Flying Lady”) is the symbol of the brand. It is a woman, leaning forward with her arms outstretched like the wings. Now, the brand offers its clients to make it of stainless steel, stainless with 24-carat gold plating or illuminated frosted crystal. Moreover, it’s also possible to cover it with matte black paint or add diamonds to it. Rolls-Royce logo is a silver rectangular emblem with two letters “R” inside, the first letters of the names of the company’s founders.
Rolls-Royce 10 hp was the first car of the brand, released in 1904. Rolls-Royce Limited was created in 1906 by Henry Royce and Charles Rolls. In 1931, Rolls-Royce bought Bentley brand after it had gone bankrupt.
In 1971, Rolls-Royce Limited was nationalized because of its financial problems. In 1973, the company was deprived of its automobile department, which turned into Rolls-Royce Motors. However, Rolls-Royce Limited continued to work and in 1987 became Rolls-Royce plc. In its turn, Rolls-Royce Motors was bought by Vickers in 1980.
In 1998, Rolls-Royce was bought by BMW, which had already provided engines for its cars. BMW also received the right for the Rolls-Royce brand name, logo, the Spirit of Ecstasy and Rolls-Royce grill shape trademarks. The Rolls-Royce Phantom four-door sedan was the first car of the actual brand, released in 2003.
