The brand’s logo is a jaguar, jumping above the company’s name. Jaguar was chosen because since the company’s creation it focused on fast and stylish cars. It symbolizes speed, power and brilliance of the cars. The brand name is written in “Algera” font, which makes the logo more stylish and elegant. Besides Jaguar cars, you can see this logo at any company’s photo or poster as well as on the net.
The company was established as Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922 by William Lyons and William Walmsley and produced motorcycle sidecars. In 1934, the company started to produce cars. In 1945, the company’s name was changed to Jaguar as their shortened name SS resembled the Nazi troops. Jaguar became a well known car brand by producing a series of sports cars, which were successful at motorsport. They are Jaguar XK120 (1948–54), Jaguar XK140 (1954-7), Jaguar XK150 (1957–61) and Jaguar E-Type (1961-75). Jaguar cars won Le Mans 24 hours race for 5 times.
In 1960, Jaguar bought Daimler and used its marquee for its most luxurious saloons. In 1966, it merged with British Motor Corporation and in 1968 with Layland Motor Corporation. In 1990, Jaguar was sold to Ford. In 2000, Ford purchased Land Rover, which became associated with Jaguar because of their common distribution network. Since 2008, both Jaguar and Land Rover pertain to Tata Motors.
In the recent years, Jaguar produced cars for the British Prime Minister and also has royal warrants from Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the royal family.
