Aston Martin (full name Aston Martin Lagonda Limited) is a British luxury sports car manufacturer, established in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. In 1947, the company was bought by David Brown, a tractor manufacturer. Later, it was run by William Wilson and Victor Gauntlett. From 1994 to 2007, Aston Martin was owned by Ford Motor Company. In 2007, it was bought by a consortium of investors, led by David Richards. However, ?40 million stake still pertains to Ford. Now, the chief executive officer of the company is Andy Palmer, who used to work for Nissan before. The company is owned by six different organizations.
Throughout its history, the company passed through numerous ups and downs. It had many financial problems. It was the most successful under rule of David Brown (1947-1972) and after Ford bought it (since 1996). Now, Aston Martin is considered one of the best luxury car manufacturers in the world.
These cars reached such popularity because of their participation in car races. Aston Martin takes part in races since 1931. This company is one of the constructors for Formula One and 24 Hours of Le Mans races.
