The company’s official slogan, seen on every its poster, is "The Power to Surprise". Kia’s logo is a red ellipse with the company’s name inside. The ellipse means efficiency, creativity and reliability. The red color of the emblem is the symbol of passion and the responsibility of the company for its products. The white color, which is also present in the logo, symbolizes elegance and purity.
The company was founded in 1944 as KyungSung Precision Industry, but in 1951, it changed its name to KIA Industries. First, it produced steel tubing and bicycle parts, but in 1951 it started to release bicycles.
In 1957, Kia started to produce motorcycles, in 1962 ? trucks, and in 1974 ? cars. Since 1976, it produces cars for the South Korean Army. From 1981 to 1986, Kia released only trucks. In 1986, the brand returned to the industry and created cars in cooperation with Ford and Mazda.
In 1990, the company got a new name, KIA Motors Inc. In 1999, it became a part of Hyundai Kia Automotive Group after been sold to Hyundai.
From 2006, Kia Motors focuses on design of its cars. That year, it hired Peter Schreyer as a Chief Design Officer. Peter used to work for Audi and Volkswagen and got the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany. And it was him, who introduced the idea of famous "Tiger Nose" grille, which became a symbol of the brand.
At the moment, Kia is the second largest car manufacturer in South Korea after Hyundai and the seventh largest carmaker in the world.
