Alfa Romeo car brand was created in 1910 in Milan under the name of A.L.F.A (Anonymous Lombard Automobile Factory). The first car, 24 HP, was produced the same year. In 1920, the name of the company was changed to Alfa Romeo. Romeo was the last name of the director, who ruled the company from 1915 to 1928. Torpedo 20-30 HP became the first car with that badge. Alfa Romeo badge consists of a red cross, an emblem of Milan, and a crowned viper, which is the symbol of the House of Visconti, who ruled the city in the 14th century. The original logo was designed by Romano Cattaneo in 1910. But throughout the years, the badge had several modifications.
Over the years of its history, Alfa Romeo brand introduced numerous innovations, including double overhead cam, electric injection systems, CAD design process, robotized/paddle control transmission and an electro-hydraulic variable valve actuation technology.

Alfa Romeo cars took part in numerous races since the year of brand creation, including Grand Prix motor racing and Formula One.
However, Alfa Romeo isn’t only a car manufacturer. It also produced trucks, buses, trolleybuses, aircraft engines, railway locomotives and tractors.
Its cars are also used by Italian police and Carabinieri since 1960s. Now, the colors of the police cars are blue with white stripes, though they used to be green in the past.
